What effect does the Glare Blaster have?
The Blair Blaster is an LED-based deterrent device designed to induce an aversive response.
The high intensity light causes dark spots in your field of vision and bleaches the photoreceptors in your retina.
Additionally, red and blue pulsating lights overlap and pulsate at frequencies of 12-15Hz and 50-60Hz, inducing stimulation on the sensory processing system.
The human brain has a limited capacity to receive and process visual information.
Overloading the sensory processing system causes disorientation and automatically induces aversive responses.
The discomfort will subside after a few minutes once the light source is removed.
The Glare Blaster uses a light source that is certified to EN62471 Risk Group 2.
EN62471 is the new European standard for all lights and lighting systems, including LEDs. Product classification is based on:
1) Damage to skin and eyes caused by ultraviolet rays
2) Damage to the skin and eyes caused by near-ultraviolet rays (315nm-400nm)
3) Blu-ray damage to the retina
4) Damage to the retina caused by Blu-ray (small light)

7) Damage to eyes caused by infrared radiation (780nm-3000nm)
8) Damage to the skin caused by heat (380nm to 3000nm)
What is EN62471 Risk Group 2?
Light sources in the Risk Group 2 category will elicit an aversive response in viewers within 0.25 seconds.
Typical aversion responses include blinking, head shaking, constriction of the pupils and continuous eye movements to limit the amount of light reaching the retina.
For Glare Blasters, moving away from or looking away from the light source can help reduce the discomfort caused by STUN mode.
About Photosensitive Epilepsy
Photosensitive epilepsy is generally considered to be a type of epilepsy in which almost all seizures are triggered by flashing or flickering light.
Approximately 3% plus of every 2 million people who experience epilepsy fall into this category.
It is most common between the ages of 7 and 19 and affects more girls than boys.
Most people with photosensitive epilepsy are particularly sensitive to 16-25Hz (1 second flash/blink frequency).
Do glare blasters induce photosensitive epilepsy?
